How to access Web Disk of cPanel from Windows PC

Access Web Disk of cPanel

In this article we will discuss an important topic about Accessing Web Disk of cPanel. To access this you do not need any extra software. First we talk about What is Web Disk ?

Web Disk  is a drag-and-drop interface in cPanel which allows you to access your website’s files from your desktop. It fosters the process of file management related to your website. On creating a Web Disk account and accessing the Web Disk feature you can easily navigate, upload, download files to and from the web server easily.

We will do this by some simple steps. Please follow these steps carefully.

Step 1 : Log in to your cPanel and search for Web Disk Option and open it. (view below image)

Here you will see a Main Web Disk Account Section.

Step 2 : Click on Configure Client Access. (view below image)

After this you will see a page with some details about your Web Disk Access.

You will see two ports one is for non SSL and another is for SSL. Please note that you can only use non SSL port if your site has no SSL certificate installed. In my case, i am using port 2078

Step 3 : Choose Your Operating System type and note the details of the connection. (view below image)

You will need a username and password later. ( password = Your cPanel Password )

Step 4 : Open My Computer or This PC on you computer and navigate to Computer > Add a network location (view below image)

A new window will appear. Click on Next and click on Choose a custom network location (view below image)

Step 5 : Click on Next and type the server address with port.

Step 6 : Click on Next button.

if your details are correct then the system will ask for username and password. if the details are not correct then it will show an error.

We are assuming you entered the correct details. Enter the username and password and click on OK.

Now, System will ask for a name. Write a Name so you can find it easily in This PC or My Computer.

After these steps, a new network location will create on your PC. (view below image)

Now you can manage your server files from your Windows PC.

Some important things you must remember

  1. Your cPanel password is the default password for your default Web Disk Account. You can create more Web Disk Accounts from the cPanel. you can create different passwords for different Web Disk Accounts.
  2. Ports are very important. You can only connect to your server with the correct port.
  3. Keep in mind two ports are available in cPanel. one for non SSL and one for SSL.
  4. If you are using https:// then use the SSL port and if you are using http:// then use non SSL port.
  5. You can only use https:// when your site has installed SSL certificate.
